Cardio Drumming
Cardio drumming combines cardio exercise and drumming to the rhythm of the music in an easy but effective workout. It’s a fun, fast-paced way to get your heart rate up, improve your rhythm, and burn calories. You don’t need to be a drummer to do it, and even more amazingly, you don’t even need drums! All ages are welcome. All you need is a bucket, exercise ball, drumsticks, some music, and you can start drumming. All equipment is provided. Tennis shoes are required. $3/class or $15/month fee schedule. Space is limited.
Chair Aerobics
This 30 minute class allows participants to remain seated while participating in a complete workout aimed to limit the stress and strain on the joints. Low intensity chair exercises can raise your fitness level and functional capacity of your body enough to make day to day activities easier. At no cost to all participants.
HIIT
This is a full-body workout incorporating various interval training sequences with high-intensity exercises. It builds cardiovascular fitness while improving muscular strength and endurance. This class provides a great physical challenge and leaves participants feeling strong. There is no charge for those who are ages 55 and older. The cost for those who are ages 54 and younger is $3 per class or $15 per month.
Line Dancing with Loretta
Instructor: Loretta & Jack Fertal
Line dancing is an alternative way to be more active, meet new friends, increase stamina and cardiovascular endurance, improve balance, move rhythmically to energizing music, release stress, and just have fun! No dance experience needed, just the desire to move and have fun! The class is at no cost. Please wear appropriate footwear.
Mellow Mobility (Chair Based)
This movement and mobility class is a combination of multiple methods of stretching, muscle pain release, and movement quality improvement with support of a chair if needed. We will focus on flexibility exercises, yoga positions & stretches (yet not a yoga class) and some stability work with core strength. Appropriate for any age or fitness level. Please call 252-475-9270. No cost to 55 years +. 54 and younger: $3.00/class or $15.00/month.
Step & Tone
Instructor: Ricki Tillett
A 50-minute cardio and strength workout that incorporates choreographed steps on an elevated platform to the rhythm of high energy music, upper body strength exercises, lower body sculpting exercises & totally body stretching. The class will use various optional exercise equipment (weights, bands, balls) to enhance the toning workout. Fee schedule is by donation.
Tai Chi - Beginner & Intermediate
Instructor: Pixie Wescott
Tai Chi is a series of gentle movements based on an ancient Chinese martial art form. Dr. Paul Lam developed this safe and interesting program, which is easy to learn for beginners and people of almost any physical condition or age. This class will benefit your health in general and improve focus and balance. It can help to relieve your pain, relieve stress, strengthen muscles and improve balance. Proper athletic shoes required. Included in the $3/class or $15/month fee.
Tabata Silver
Instructor: Winnie Backman
This class offers interval training in the traditional Tabata timing format of 20 seconds work to 10 seconds rest with modifications that are friendly to active older adults. The classes will target cardio, strength and core training for all ability levels in a time efficient 30 minute class. Appropriate for all ages and fitness levels. Tennis shoes required. AT NO COST for 55+. Included in the $3/class & $15/month fee.
Youthful Hearts 55+
This class is specifically designed for 55 and older beginners and veteran exercisers that are looking to remain fit and active. This class offers a variety of exercises designed to increase muscular strength, balance, flexibility, and overall quality of life. This class may incorporate body weight exercise, dumbbells, elastic bands, stability balls and chair (for support & balance). This is a low-impact aerobic senior workout program designed for all fitness levels. Proper athletic shoes required. AT NO COST for 55+. Included in the $3/class & $15/month fee.
Yoga with Mary
Instructor: Mary Grindlay
A class where movement flows through postures in time with breath, creating a sense of strength while promoting ease and tension relief. This class is focused on posture, deep breathing, and mindfulness while listening to the body. Suitable for all levels. Included in the $5/class or $25/month fee.
Yoga with Pat
Instructor: Pat Baker
This is a multi level class that incorporates postures and breath awareness to gently strengthen, lengthen and relax the body and mind. Blocks, straps and walls may be used for support. Suitable for all levels. Fee schedule is by donation.
Yoga with Tracy
Instructor: Tracy Benkusky
This Slow Flow yoga class is a fluid flow of poses using breath and awareness. The poses vary in difficulty, but this slower pace class allows for detailed instruction and time for mindful movement, encouraging students to find a balance between effort and ease to help increase strength, flexibility and balance. Fee schedule is by donation.
