The Fessenden Center is a multigenerational facility serving all of Hatteras Island with a variety programs and activities for toddlers, youth, adults, older adults and families alike. Located in Buxton, the Fessenden Center is home to the Hatteras Island Division of the Dare County Parks & Recreation Department and offers a wide array of Parks & Recreation programming, as well as numerous older adult and senior services.

The Fessenden Center staff seeks to provide professionally designed and supervised programs that benefit all ages and interests in several areas, including athletics, arts, wellness and general leisure programming. Youth programs include a variety of classes and lessons, as well as team and individual sports, summer camps and special events. Adult programs are also diverse, including shopping trips, movies, luncheons, fitness classes and presentations by speakers covering a variety of topics.
