Fessenden Center Calendar
Fitness classes offered by the Hatteras Island division of Dare County Parks and Recreation are $3/per class or $15/per month for those under the age of 55. For Dare County residents and property owners who are 55 and older, fitness classes are FREE.
The activity room is open Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Use of equipment is available during these times unless there is a class or activity using the room.
All indoor activities are for Dare County residents and property owners only. Outdoor facilities are open for all to enjoy.

Boot Camp: (high intensity) A forty-five minute fitness bootcamp in a group physical training atmosphere designed to build strength and cardiovascular fitness through a variety of intense intervals. From squats, sprints, burpees and more, this class pushes you right to your limit!
POUND - Rockout. Workout.®: (varied intensity) Channel your inner rockstar with this full-body cardio jam session inspired by the infectious, sweat-dripping fun of playing the drums. Using Ripstix ®, lightly weighted exercise drumsticks, torch calories and POUND your way to a leaner, slimmer physique - all while rocking out to your favorite music! Classes range from 30 to 45 minutes in this all ages and all stages workout!
Power Circuit: (medium-high intensity) Perform a variety of exercises to improve muscular fitness and boost cardiovascular efficiency for a whole body, strength-building workout that will boost your metabolism. You choose your intensity for this one hour class!
Body Sculpt: (medium-high intensity) Join in on a 45 minute, powerful total body sculpt with this weight-based class that works the entire body and defines muscles with a daily core emphasis. Using power sets, Swiss and medicine balls, variety of weights, bench, weighted bars, resistance bands, and your own bodyweight this class will have you defined in no time!
Cardio Variety: (varied intensity) Class formats will vary each week in this one hour session. Classes will range from low choreographed combinations and sequences to cardio kick (kick & punch series), military style formats with easy to follow marching and drills as well as cardio interval training.
Balance & Core: (low intensity) This one hour class will focus on strengthening your core muscles, improving balance, and increasing flexibility using varied equipment; blending pilates, yoga, and traditional styles for a complete core challenge!
Senior Fitness: (low intensity) A forty-five minute session specifically designed for the older adult to improve strength, cardiovascular endurance, range of motion, and improve overall functioning of the body. Using a chair for standing or seated support and a variety of other equipment, the goal of this class is to better enable you in your day to day activities of life.
Step Plus: (varied intensity) This one hour class begins with easy to follow movements on a step bench and will conclude with a variety of components to work on core and strength. Intensity is determined by the size of your movements and/or the use of risers in this full body workout.
Yoga: (varied intensity) A practice of fluidic movement between postures, guided by and linked through breathing. This class combines basic and advanced poses while offering modifications. This class is a great way to improve balance, strengthen core muscles and increase flexibility. All levels are encouraged - ask a staff member for which class would best suit you!
