Dare County, NC
MenuOregon Inlet Task Force
The mission of Oregon Inlet Task Force is to advise the Dare County Board of Commissioners of the conditions of Oregon Inlet as well as the interior navigation channel that runs north to Wanchese Harbor on Roanoke Island.
The Oregon Inlet Task Force serves as the liaison between Dare County and the federal agencies that are involved in the continual maintenance of Oregon Inlet. The office and the Oregon Inlet Task Force lobby for federal funding to accomplish dredging operations, coordinate and attend meetings and briefings with state and federal appointees in Raleigh and Washington, D.C., and provide information on various activities, concerns, interests and legislative needs.
The Oregon Inlet Task Force is also responsible for overseeing the construction and operations of the public-private partnership dredge, the "Miss Katie," which was built by EJE Dredging.
The dredge operates up to 12 hours a day (weather permitting)—providing strategic dredging services for Oregon Inlet and Hatteras Inlet, as well as their surrounding waterways and other shallow-draft inlets and waterways in North Carolina.
Pursuant to and in compliance with the provisions of the 2017 Session of the North Carolina General Assembly, Senate Bill 99, Section 13.7(a-h), the Miss Katie’s dredging operations will be managed by the Oregon Inlet Task Force, whose members will plan, schedule and monitor the success of the various local dredging projects that are performed.
