Peer Power is a peer health education program where high school students are trained in:

  • Nutrition

  • Physical Activity

  • Behavioral Health

  • Alcohol

  • Tobacco

  • Other drug usage

  • Safety

Peer Power Health Educators become good role models, citizens, and are committed to promoting and living healthy lifestyles.  After training is completed, Peer Power Health Educators teach in the elementary school and middle school students of Dare County schools. Peer Power educators will have the opportunity to influence younger students', their own families and the community about health and well-being, while advocating for Healthy Living.

The Peer Power program is well respected and known for its community involvement. Some programs and initiatives Peer Power Health Educators have been a part of include:

  • Smoke-free parks, restaurants, and bars

  • Healthy vending machine options at Parks & Recreation

  • Merchant Education partnership with Alcohol Law Enforcement

  • Drug Drop Off Events

  • After Prom Party

  • Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems/ECigs Education

  • Summer Camp Programs

  • Adult & Government Official Health Education Efforts

Peer Power is provided through a partnership with Dare County Schools.
