MenuJury Duty
Jurors play a critical role in our country’s judicial system. We understand that serving on a jury can be a great inconvenience and sacrifice. Please know that we appreciate your service.
If you receive a jury summons, please follow the directions as set forth on the summons.
- After 6 p.m. on the night before the service date on the summons, jurors should call the Jury Message Line 252.475.5205. The Jury Message Line will provide information as to when jurors are to report for jury duty.
- If required to appear, jurors should report to the Jury Assembly Room on the 2nd floor of the DARE County Justice Center at the stated time on the jury summons.
- Please be aware that the date and time are subject to change. It is imperative that you call the Jury Message Line the evening prior to your required service date.
Excuses from jury service will be granted only in the cases of:
- Compelling personal hardship
- Requiring service would be contrary to public welfare, health, or safety
Applications for Excuse:
Applications for excuses must be made by submitting a written request to the Presiding District Court Judge no later than the date stated on your summons. This application is printed on the front of your Summons. The Clerk's office does not have the authority to excuse or defer a juror, all excuses must be presented to the Presiding Judge.
