Domestic Violence Protection Orders are NOT a means to resolve custody issues, marital property rights or other domestic issues that are resolved through divorce or custody proceedings in General District Court. A 50B Domestic Violence Protection Order is an emergency order specifically designed to offer protection against an imminent threat of harm. 

Before filing for a DVPO, please review the relevant section of the North Carolina Statutes to see if your situation qualifies for this type of relief. 

AOC forms are available for pro se litigants but we recommend that you consult with the local Hotline before filing your complaint. We are not allowed to give legal advice or guidance on how to fill out the forms. The counselors at Hotline are trained to assist you with the paperwork and overall process of taking out a protection order.

There is also a Civil No-Contact Order, that offers protection against stalking and non-consensual sexual contact. Please review the following statutes if you believe this may fit your circumstances.
