The Dare County Water Department has announced that water service will be disrupted for Dare County Water Department customers in Hatteras Village beginning at 4 p.m. today (Friday, November 8, 2024). The outage was unplanned, but it is necessary for contractors who are working to replace the Slash Creek Bridge on N.C. Highway 12 to connect the new water line. This outage will affect customers in Hatteras Village from Eagle Pass south to the ferry dock.

Water service is expected to resume by 5 p.m. today (Friday, November 8, 2024); however, based on the potential for contamination following the service disruption, customers in Hatteras Village are advised that when water is restored, all consumers should boil all water used for human consumption (including drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, and making ice) or use bottled water for these purposes. Vigorous boiling for one minute should kill any disease-causing organisms that may be present in the water.

Samples will be collected throughout the affected area to confirm the microbiological quality as soon as service is restored. The advisory will be lifted on Saturday, November 9, 2024 at 5 p.m. If there are any issues during the process, customers will be notified of a continued advisory.
