We offer a variety of affordable programs and activities for individuals and families. Parks and Recreation programming is separated into three divisions to accommodate the county's unique geography: the Roanoke Island/Mainland Division, Northern Beach Division and Hatteras Island Division.

Walk with Ease

THE ARTHRITIS FOUNDATION’S WALK WITH EASE PROGRAM all new

Instructor: Hayley Weeks-Hopkins

September 24, 2024 to November 1, 2024 from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays (3 times per week for 6 weeks)

  • A structured walking program developed by The Arthritis Foundation and designed to help individuals to improve their mobility and reduce pain.

  • Focuses on three key components: walking, stretching and strengthening exercises.

  • Participants receive guidance on proper techniques, as well as progression of walking time and intensity.

  • Participants must commit to attending the full 6-week program.

  • Target audience: Adults with arthritis who want to increase their physical activity, but this program is also appropriate for people without arthritis, particularly those with diabetes, heart disease and other chronic conditions.

  • IMPORTANT PREREQUISITE: The ability to be on your feet for at least 10 minutes without increased pain.

  • Includes stretching and strengthening exercises, as well as walking outside near the Baum Senior Center.
