Public Works Department
The Dare County Public Works Department is dedicated to meeting the needs of Outer Banks residents and visitors by providing solid waste disposal. This is achieved through the selling and delivery of trash cans, resolving sanitation/recycling problems and enforcing waste disposal guidelines.
Please note that the Dare County Public Works Department only provides trash collection for the unincorporated areas of Dare County, as well as the Town of Kitty Hawk. The county does not provide trash collection for the towns of Duck, Southern Shores, Kill Devil Hills or Nags Head. The Dare County Public Works Department also provides additional services, such as facilitating large-item pickup, coordinating support efforts during adverse weather conditions, and providing mosquito control. This department develops sanitation and recycling guidelines, procedures and schedules, and also coordinates operations between other Public Works departments.

To order trash cans for a property located within the unincorporated areas of Dare County, please call 252-475-5895. Trash cans can be picked up from Dare County Public Works located at 1018 Driftwood Drive, Manteo, NC or delivered to your residence upon request.
